HOW TASTELESS ... and I like it that way!
Nordic Naturals Arctic Cod Liver Oil in orange flavor is completely tasteless. I have to laugh about the fact that they sell both orange, lemon and peach flavors, because I've ordered them all and noticed no difference. The reason? This premium product simply does not taste like fish - it tastes like . . . nothing, and that is exactly what you want when you are taking 4 Tablespoons a day. No fishy burps, nothing.
Why Take This Stuff?
Fish oil in general is an incredible way to improve your heart, your good mental health, and even your skin as an extra bonus!
There are two main reasons I first started to take not just fish oil, but Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil specifically and over other brands. Cod Liver Oil has a high percentage of Vitamin D, which is something I am looking for, so I chose it over generic fish oil.
1. Nordic Naturals is a superior, high-grade oil that is tasteless, whereas other cod liver oil capsules and liquids I have taken that were less expensive left me with a horrible taste in my mouth and fishy burps for the rest of the day. I take large quantities of the cod liver oil because the diagnosis I am using it for needs higher amounts to be effective. Taking as many capsules as would be necessary to meet my dosage needs would be cumbersome and I probably wouldn't take them all! I prefer the option of the liquid. A tasteless liquid.
2. The ratio of DHA/EPA is important for some reason, and through recommendations on a message board I was frequenting I learned that the ratio of Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil is correct for my diagnosis, with a higher DHA to EPA balance. Actually, I wonder if this is correct sometimes, and haven't researched it much myself beyond trusting the good people of the internet, so I wouldn't bet the farm on this fact! There is also Vitamin D in cod liver oil, something I like because I live in a Northern climate with lots of rain and darkness and Vitamin D is low for those living in my latitude.
3. The amount of DHA/EPA is high per serving. Some fish oils you purchase may contain very low amounts, but Nordic Naturals contains 625 mgs of DHA and 410 mgs of EPA per teaspoon. The 4 to 5 grams I am supposed to take is reached much easier and with cost-efficiency by using this product.

Product Claims and My Experience
Here are the claims for Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil as stated on the website:
Promotes normal brain development and visual function. Increases DHA level in active kids. Enhances learning and achievement. Supports positive mood, menstrual pain, and healthy skin. Recommended for cardiovascular health, improved blood viscosity, joint mobility, flexibility, and memory function.
I have experienced better memory, better mood, less menstrual pain to such a degree that when I stop taking it I am shocked at the difference, healthier skin (softer and less fine lines), and most importantly, vastly reduced anxiety. This is the primary reason I take it.
What You WON'T Experience and What You WILL
This is not the kind of product that will give you an immediate rush of good feelings and noticeable results. Taking your daily vitamin is the same way. If you are low in EPA/DHA it takes time to build up in the body, and you might be tempted to say, "I don't feel any different . . . forget this!" like I did at first.
But in fact, it can take going off of the product to figure out how it was helping you. Just know that inside the body, good things are happening for the circulatory system, the brain, and apparently even the joints and reproductive system.
Women will notice a reduction in menstrual pain within 3 months, or at least that was how long it took for me. If you suffer from depression, you need 4 to 5 grams per day and not the 1 teaspoon that is recommended on the bottle. The Nordic Naturals website has extensive studies listed about dosing and mental health improvements.
Children are especially going to benefit from Cod Liver Oil's high DHA content because it helps with the development of their little brains and helps them to learn. I've even read that Attention Deficit Disorder and Autism are both significantly helped by taking Cod Liver Oil.
Final Recommendation
Nordic Naturals is the best of the best, and although I have paid $21.95 per bottle (much less doing some savvy shopping!) I have found it to be worth every penny. In fact, Western medicine doctors usually don't recommend "natural" remedies but this is one of only two that I have been advised to take (the other being a slow-release Vitamin B-complex vitamin, shown to vastly reduce stress-response and build serotonin in the brain).
